Access is often an issue, with narrow streets, parking restrictions and deliveries usually to apartments. It is important to provide information on all of this, including photographs if possible when trying to organise a move.
If the volume is smaller than a full house it is possible to send a shared load consignment down to Monaco following collection anywhere in Eats Yorkshire or North East Lincolnshire.

Movements from East Yorkshire to Europe seem to be increasing and Italy whilst not as popular as France and Spain is attracting more attention. Northern Italy is the main destination for customers moving to and from Hull. Despite the attractiveness of Rome, Florence and Sorento few people actually relocate their and even Tuscany appears to have dropped off in favour.
The North Italian Lakes, Milan, Turin and the Iatalian Riviera are all destinations that Appleyards of Hull have moved customers to in recent times and enquiries are still coming in for this region every month.
Access can be an issue in Italy and it is worth checking out any local parking restrictions, bridge heights, steep hillside roads etc as the vehicles going into Europe tend to be very large and a local transhipment vehicle may need to be booked.
Packing cases or a packing service are all available to assist you with the move.

European moving has never seemed to be as buoyant from Hull as people seek employment elsewhere due to limited job opportunities within East Yorkshire. Another trend seems to be for people to take early retirement to escape the “rat race” early; accepting that they will be on a more limited budget but trading this for a better quality of life. Despite the poor economic performance of countries like Spain, they are still an attractive destination when health and climate factors are taken into account.
France is still by far the most dominant European destination serviced by Appleyards of Hull and all departments seem to be favoured from Britanny and Normandy through to the Loire and Provence regions. There has even been an increase in enquiries for Monaco !.
Work related moves still tend to favour the Benelux countries and Germany, but Switzerland and Italy also now share in this type of enquiry.

Whilst relocations to far off destinations such as Australia and New Zealand continue apace, relocations from Hull to Europe have also been on the steady increase. The traditional hot spots of France and Spain are being challenged with increasing enquiries for Italy, Germany, Switzerland and more recently the Scandinavian countries.
From Hull there is nowhere in traditional mainstream Europe that is not accessible within two days and most major destinations can be reached the following day if North Sea Ferries are used. This does not include Spain or Southern Italy where a third day is needed to complete the journey.
Appleyards of Hull offer a full packing service or alternatively packing cases can be made available and they have many years experience moving people from the Hull area into Europe.

Relocations of small shipments from the North East Lincolnshire area continue at a steady pace with clients wanting to send their goods from Scunthorpe and Grimsby overseas.
Airfreight is both fast and frequent, and if you need to get your goods overseas quick, then airfreight can be the preferred option to seafreight.
Items can be packed into removal cartons then over-cased in strong cardboard airfreight cases so that items are consolidated for better protection. Airlines charge on volumetric weight or space, whichever of the two is the greater and help can be given to explain how this may affect anything you are looking to send overseas.
Destination service can be to arrival airport only or kerbside delivery dependent on your final location. Collection can be made from residence; alternatively you can drop the boxes into Appleyard's depot in Hull for onward transportation.

Whilst Canada, like many other Commonwealth countries, has always been a reasonably popular destination for people relocating from East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire it has in recent times been overshadowed by Australia, New Zealand and Cyprus. The effects of the credit crunch have seen a shift in the pattern and Cyprus has now been replaced by Canada as the third largest international destination being serviced by Appleyards of Hull for both groupage shipments and sole use shipping containers.
Toronto and Vancouver are the gateways to Canada and these cities tend to be the hubs for inbound shipments. Although they are in themselves destinations that people move to, current work opportunities are leading to more internal moves to Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Saskatoon. People sometimes relocate here but work higher up in Northern Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories and commute on a weekly basis.
Regan ( Aged 6 ) is soon to be moving from Hull to Edmonton and she has drawn a wonderful picture of her toys being loaded into the shipping container.

Appleyards of Hull have been performing commercial moving in Hull for nearly 20 years. Document storage and subsequent data destruction is a natural bi product of commercial moving so if you need to store office files offsite it makes sense to select a company that can also carry out the shredding of those documents when the times comes.
If on the other hand you want a one off destruction of files this can also be organised. Paperwork can be taken away in your own boxes or shredding bags and seals can be supplied so that you can sort out the emptying of filing cabinets etc. For a more regular service lockable wheelie bins or office consoles are the way forward.
Following secure shredding you should always be issued with a certificate of destruction.

If you are looking to move home from Hull to Spain then there are several things that you need to consider. Prices are sensitive to volume and the more you can condense the volume the lower will be the cost. In addition access can also be an issue, so you need to check out the roads leading to your new home and the driveway. Also you need to note if you are moving into a house or an apartment and if the latter what floor it is on.
Most relocations from East Yorkshire tend to be to coastal towns along the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca, but moves to more traditional Spanish villages further inland are also popular destinations.
Should you be looking to relocate from Spain back to the UK then this is also something that Appleyards are able to sort for you.

If you are looking to relocate your home to France there are many things to consider and choosing a competent European specialist removal company will help you greatly. Prices are determined by the volume so a good starting point is to book a pre move survey. During this process you will be able to ask questions about the relevant packing services on offer, timings and things such as any access restrictions outside either property that may affect the cost.
It is possible to send smaller items as part loads but larger volumes can be sent to France as either specials on dates to suit you or as shared loads on one of the weekly European service runs. With a shared load the week can be guaranteed but the date of delivery will be chosen by the remover; but this can work out well for both parties.
Appleyards of Hull have been moving items from East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire to France for nearly 20 years and have the experience to coordinate you relocation.
16th March 2013
Packing cases are really difficult to get hold of these days as most companies recycle their cardboard waste. If you need removal boxes to move house or want packing boxes so that you can decorate a room or pack things away to go into your loft or garage then you need to contact a local remover or self storage company. If you live in East Yorkshire then Appleyards of Hull and Hull Self Store are able to help you and both stock a large variety of boxes.
The carton that replicates the sizes of the old tea chest is still one of the most commonly used boxes throughout the world for packing household contents, although for small heavier things such as books , dvds, tools etc book cartons are best used as these are approximately half the size.
Should you require specialist boxes such as golf club boxes, bike cartons, lampshade boxes etc these can also be supplied along with bubble wrap, packing paper and removal tape.

If you are moving office into, out of, or within East Yorkshire then you will need the services of an office moving company. As well as the move there are other things to consider such as archive document storage and confidential shredding, all of which can be offered by a well organised commercial removal firm.
It is normal for a pre move survey to be performed so that volumes can be measured and plans put in place so that the move can have a minimal disruption to your day to day business. Advice on moving filing cabinets, multi store units, photocopiers and safes can also be provided.
Appleyards of Hull have been carrying out commercial moving for nearly 20 years in East Yorkshire and have a long list of prestigious companies that they perform relocations for on a regular basis.

With their being a long tradition of military personnel being based in Germany there has always been a reasonable amount of people relocating their from East Yorkshire. By utilising North Sea Ferries out of Hull it is possible to access the Northern and Western cities of Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Bremen , Bonn, Frankfurt, Dortmund and Cologne easily within one day. For Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden, Stuttgart and Munich additional time needs to be allowed.
Full packing services are available and cartons can also be made available if required. Prices are volume driven. For smaller moves a list can be suffice, but if you are looking at forwarding a whole home across to Germany then it is sensible to organise for a pre move survey to be carried out.
Access at destination is critical to a smooth move so be sure to know about any parking restrictions or any issues that may affect access into your new property.

For many years Australia and New Zealand have been the most popular destinations for customers moving internationally from North East Lincolnshire; but in recent months Grimsby has seen a massive increase in people relocating to Australia. This increase seems to be based on both Perth and Sydney with slightly fewer people moving to Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide.
Anything can be shipped from a small part load, or groupage consignment, of a few boxes to a full 20ft or 40ft shipping container. It makes good sense to take advice on packing options available and also customs and especially quarantine requirements.
Appleyards have many years experience in this specialist area and are able to visit your home if you live in Grimsby or the surrounding area to provide useful advice on moving to Australia, or anywhere else in the world.

Struggling to find a reputable removal company, and not able to access a van yourself?
This could be the solution, with storage from as little as £8 per week, aiming to make storage easy and efficient for all by using mobile storage. With this service a mobile storage unit (MSU) will be delivered to your door, which is then left with you to fill yourself or with family members and friends, MSU’s are 7ft2 Deep, 5ft2 Wide and 8ft Tall (equivalent to a large garden shed). If getting people to assist in filling the MSU turned out to be a problem, for a small charge you can get trained removal staff to assist you.
Mobile storage saves you having to hire a van or pay for a removal company, it cuts down on handling and is very quick to do. Appleyards of Hull have been offering a mobile self storage service to its self storage customers for many years and will be able to guide you on how many units you may need.

In the past getting hold of cardboard boxes to help you move home or store items away did not usually present any problems. With todays focus on recycling and the demise of corner shops there is not a readily supply of second hand cardboard boxes available.
Cardboard cartons can be bought from both removal companies and self storage companies. The self storage companies will stock fairly standard cartons that are ideal for moving home, but if you are looking for some specialist packaging, maybe a bike carton or a golf club carton then you would be best contacting a removal company.
Appleyards of Hull and Hull Self Store stock a wide range of moving boxes
5th March 2013
Archive document storage is something that companies turn to when space becomes an issue or they need to offsite information for security reasons. Carefully management at this point will ensure that files can be easily retrieved and more importantly shredded when the time comes for this.
These days you can offsite just a few boxes, several hundred or several thousand; depending on your needs. Be careful not to purchase oversized archive boxes as these are too heavy when full and will collapse after a short period of time. Any labelling is best on the end and not the side so that information can be visible once placed into storage.
If you are considering placing your records into store then it would be worth your while visiting Appleyards of Hull. You will be able to see how and where archives are stored, managed and shredded on site.

A capital city will always attract people to it, often for pleasure, but always for work and Paris is no exception. Appleyards of Hull have been moving customers to France for many years but even today Paris is still one of the major destinations. With many large organisations being located in and around the city this leads to people moving there with their jobs, often for several years before progressing onto another location within Europe or moving back to the UK from France.
The suburbs of Paris present few problems for a removal vehicle but the closer you get to the heart of the city more care needs to be taken as access issues start to raise their heads. Streets may have parking restrictions, require parking permits or be just too narrow to allow a large vehicle to enter. Apartments may also require the need for an external elevator to be hired in to allow delivery.
Paris is only a day and half away from Yorkshire so it is not that difficult to organise a removal to here with an experienced international removal company.

Appleyards of East Yorkshire has seen an increase in clients wanting to send small airfreight shipments from Hull overseas. When it comes to speed, there is no question that air freight is usually faster and sometimes this can be an important factor when trying to get smaller consignments abroad.
Once items have been packed into removal cartons they are then over-cased in strong cardboard airfreight cases so that items are better protected and kept together. Airlines charge on volumetric weight or space, whichever of the two is the greater and help can be given to explain how this may affect anything you are looking to send overseas.
Dependent on your location overseas the destination service can be to arrival airport only or kerbside delivery. Collection can be made or alternatively you can drop the boxes into Appleyards depot in Hull for onward transportation.

Moving home is stressful enough, but when you need to also put all you own into storage as well, it can cause serious headaches. Storage can mean handling everything you have four times unless you choose a removal company that can offer containerised storage on site. This way things are physically removed twice and the storage containers can be removed and subsequently reloaded with a forklift.
You should always ensure you have an inventory of the goods taken into store that notes not only the items but also their condition. It is also worth actually viewing the company and asking to see where your goods will be stored. Check that the building is secure, dry and tidy. Good housekeeping is a sign of a well run removals and storage company.
Appleyards of Hull have a purpose built storage depository close to the centre of Hull and you are invited to visit the site anytime, without appointment to be shown around.

The archiving and storage of business information is a legal requirement for all business’s. Whilst most just consider the storage side of this, a few simple steps can help you manage any of your archive records. A basic excel spreadsheet is all that is needed. Log the contents of each box and also note the date for destruction. Often companies put information into storage and pay storage rentals long over the date from which the documents could have been disposed with.
Appleyards of Hull are able to offer document storage from just a few archive cartons to several thousand boxes or anything inbetween. Because they also have their own internal shredding department all files can be securely shredded within the same building they are stored and a certificate of destruction issued.
Archive boxes and shredding are all available

Relocations to Spain from East Yorkshire have started to increase again in the last two years. Whilst Marbella and Malaga are still popular destinations on the Costa del Sol, it is the Costa Blanca that seems to be recording more movements of late.
Appleyards of Hull operate a service to the Costa Blanca and traffic is sent via an Alicante warehouse. This is primarily due to the need to send large volume road trains down to Spain, but access to properties in the region tend to be limited. It is therefore easier to off load the units in Alicante onto smaller transit vehicles that can easily access more difficult locations in for example Torreviejca, Javea, Benidorm and Cartegena.
Removals to Spain need to be carefully planned and organised to help remove stress.

If you live in Scunthorpe and looking for relocation to Australia, then you ideally need an international removal specialist that is located close to you so that they can help guide you through the moving process.
Australia is now becoming one of the most popular countries for people living in the Scunthopre area to relocate, due to a mixture of the fine weather, the laid back attitude to life and great potential for the future. Most will obviously look to the major inner cities on their arrival. Moving home can be a very stressful time in your life. Statistically it is considered to be the third worst worrying time after bereavement and divorce. There is much to consider and often the current legal process means that completion dates are set at very short notice, sometimes even on the same day as contract exchange.
The very last thing you undertake on a move is the physical removal process and by this time stress levels can be through the roof. It is therefore sensible to use a reputable removal firm that not only uses quality trained staff, is part of the British Association of Removers, but also has sufficient resources to be able to cope with any last minute bookings.
Appleyards of Hull is able to offer practical advice and guidance on the moving process, assess volumes, provide information on packing services, discuss access issues and help remove some of the stresses and strains involved. They can assist with moves across Hull, East Yorkshire, relocations to Europe or further afield to Australia or New Zealand.

Keeping your old records is something that most local Hull business’s accept that they have to do, but often the task of organising it is given to the office junior. Record keeping is poor and future management rarely happens.
Should you look to offsite any of your company files it is an ideal opportunity to put a document management system in place. This doesn’t need to be complicated and often the simpler the better. Recording files to a carton, allocating a sequential number to a carton are easy to register, it is then down to your preferred storer to allocate the carton to an aisle and then to a bay.
Careful management will allow any files to be extracted easily and when the time comes ensure that paperwork is securely destroyed. Appleyards of Hull have many experience in archiving company records and can provide a full management and shredding solution for any size of business, from just a few cartons to many thousand.

Spain has been a regular destination for people relocating from East Yorkshire. Whilst the Costa Dorada and Costa Blanca are popular the Costa del Sol is the busiest destination from this region by far. Appleyards of Hull offer a regular service to all areas of the Costa del Sol. The large road-trains that leave the UK head for the Malaga depot.
Most removals to Spain tend to be smaller volumes so the larger vehicles that arrive in Malaga are deconsolidated here and then effects are redelivered on smaller vans to Marbella, Estepona, Benalmadina, Mijas, La Linea and Sotogrande on the coast.
Access at delivery is key, especially for residences in older Spanish villages that are more inland.

The recent colder winters has seen an increasing amount of UK drivers opting to use both summer and winter tyres. A set of winter tyres can give a car a 4x4 feel and is much safer to use, especially during prolonged bouts of snowfall.
In many European countries it is now law to use two sets of tyres, but with this brings problems of storage.
Appleyards of Hull are able to store either set of tyres, winter or summer and help arrange for them to be swapped over with your preferred garage or through an arrangement they have with ATS in Hull.

Despite the rise in recent years in self storage, traditional removals storage is often still required when people are unable to move furniture themselves or the volume is too large.
With containerised storage large wooden crates can be brought to your home in the back of a removal van. With side loading doors and platforms each storage unit can be loaded one at a time and a detailed inventory taken as to the contents and their condition. Once back at the warehouse they can be removed mechanically, which cuts down on the handling by 200% as the process can be reversed when the goods are redelivered.
Appleyards of Hull offer the only purpose built removal storage warehouse in Hull and have a fleet of vehicles designed to take the storage containers.

Because of the historic fishing links associated with the port of Hull there has been movement between East Yorkshire and Denmark for many years. The Danish Church is still located in Hull city centre and ministers still relocate between the two countries.
Small part loads are often uneconomic due to the high transportation costs but medium to large house removals are often undertaken by Appleyards of Hull’s European team.
Copenhagen is the main base for removal enquiries to Denmark, but places such as Odense, Aarhus, Aalborg and the western port of Esberg also attract attention. Denmark is often used also as a stepping stone for moves into Southern Sweden to Malmo and Gothenburg.

Moving office can be a daunting task. Trying to tie down and organise all the relevant components can be a full time role but for one off office relocations it is often allocated to an office manager and added to their daily list of tasks to perform.
Appleyards of Hull have a wealth of experience in organising office removals and are able to visit you several months in advance to assist you in planning the key stages of the move.
Hints and tips on packing desk and filing cabinet contents, removing akward or heavy items, assessing any access issues and the most sensible times to actually carry out the move are all part of the information Appleyards are able to provide.

Should you be responsible for your company records and files then you need to consider carefully what you should be doing with them when it comes to removing them from your building. With the massive rise in identity theft in East Yorkshire it is important that your documents are disposed with securely.
Appleyards of Hull is a local shredding company that can offer several options when it comes to secure destruction. Shredding bags are simple, easy to fill and seal for one off or small collections. If a more regular service is needed then lockable wheelie bins or secure office consoles are also a good option to consider.
Always ensure that you get a certificate of destruction and ensure that the items being sent for shredding are being disposed with in an environmentally fashion. There is no reason why the majority of office paperwork cannot be 100% recycled.

When people consider leaving the city and moving to the country there is often an idyllic image created in ones mind. A move to a country cottage in rolling hills or a peaceful home by the sea often leads to the need to downsize and you need to plan carefully every step of the relocation.
Such detailed planning will help ensure that items are only taken that have a place in your new home and de-cluttering prior to the move will make life a lot easier when removal boxes are being delivered into smaller rooms and you have fewer cupboards to put things into.
Locations of beauty bring access issues as well so care must be taken to ensure that a large removal vehicle can get to you…and it is worth bearing in mind that winter moves can be very stressful if the weather is against you.
Appleyards of Hull managed to follow the snow plough to get this clients goods delivered on time.

If you are having a sort out in your office or are planning a move and need cartons to box up all your office files and records there are many options to choose from. You can use cartons with separate lids or large boxes that you think you can get more paperwork in.
You would be better however to use a slightly smaller carton that will not collapse if over loaded and is easier to handle. Loose lids often get creased and then don’t fit allowing the contents to be seen or worse spill out.
Appleyards of Hull stock literally 1000;s of document archive cartons that are perfect in size and have built in lids and they are only £1.35p each plus VAT.

If you are looking seriously at moving to anywhere in New Zealand and you live in East Yorkshire or North Lincolnshire then Appleyards of Hull have the team that can assist you every step of the way....and this is why.
"Thanks Karen, can I also take this opportunity to say how impressed we were with the guys, if all your employees are like that then you are very fortunate. The lads were professional, efficient and took time and effort to ensure Lisa was not effected by their activity and to see how they performed when the container arrived was just outstanding. They are a credit to the company and what they and you have done will I am sure make the whole process easier as obviously it is a time of mixed emotion, stress and fear of the unknown as well as a little excitement. Anyway thanks again to the way Andy gave us confidence, your support and organisation and the execution by the guys, totally first class !!"

Moving overseas can be a very daunting proposition as there is a lot to consider and much planning needed to ensure a smooth transition from your UK base to your final destination.
The internet can provide a lot of the answers to basic questions and there are many blogs that are specific to certain countries and cities that will also help to fill in the pieces. However, when it comes to needing specific detailed information about how to remove internationally your household furniture and effects then you are best advised to consult with an experienced international removal consultant.
Karen and Andy at Appleyards of Hull have been organising international moves for many years and can provide sound advice on documentation, packing, shipping cars, moving pets etc etc. Guidance for helping relocate young children is also available and Appleyards would like to thank Bethany aged 2 for her stunning artwork prior to her move to South Africa.

If you are relocating overseas from East Yorkshire or Norh East Lincolnshire and have the need to get items out to your destination speedily then airfreight is the sensible solution as opposed to sea freight which takes too long.
Items such as toys, clothing, linen, tools etc can all be easily packaged up and sent via air to your destination airport. At the destination you can arrange to collect them yourselves or have them delivered, subject to your location. Airlines work on volumetric space or weight, whichever of the two is the greater so you need to have items collected, weighed and measured before the final price can be calculated.
It is best to use modular cartons that can fit within standard 1 cubm air freight crates. Appleyards of Hull are able to help assess volume, provide cartons or assist with the packing and forward your personal effects.

Whilst not many people retire to Belgium, Appleyards of Hull get regular enquiries for customers relocating with their jobs from East Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire to Belgium. Obviously Brussels is a major destination but business links all mean that staff relocate on a fairly regular basis to Antwerp, Gent and Liege.
With the daily evening ferry from Hull to Zebrugge it is very easy to organise a relocation between the UK and Belgium with often only one overnight without beds and bedding required. Consideration should be given to parking to ensure that there are no restrictions and also if delivery is to be to an apartment then you need to look into lifts or the possible requirement to use an outside elevator.
If you are relocating from Belgium back to the Yorkshire area then Appleyards will also be able to help you.

With the on-going recession there is an increase in people looking to relocate overseas. Despite this, tourism, trade, employment and investment opportunities are thriving in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and UK Expats are enjoying a high standard of living making the United Arab Emirates a major relocation destination from the UK.
UAE has grown to one of the Middle East's most important affluent places to live. The oil industry has expanded dramatically over the past ten years and this has seen an increase of foreign workers who, together with expatriates, now make up more than 75% of the population.
Appleyards of East Yorkshire have received more enquiries for relocations to Dubai and Abu Dhabi than in past years. Appleyards have a very experienced team that can help give advice on packing up your home, and moving to a new exciting life in the UAE.

Most sofas are not these days built to the same standard as they used to be. Hardwood frames or thick leather hides are used on only the most expensive suites and therefore ensuring sofas are stored correctly is very important or they may be damaged in store.
Small sofas can be stored in storage containers but larger ones should be stored on racking with nothing placed on top of them. This will prevent the ends from being warped over time and ensure that cushions are not affected by pressure marks.
If you are expecting a delivery of some new sofas and are not ready to receive them or need to move back in with family and need some temporary storage for your effects and sofas then Appleyards of Hull will be able to assist. Sofa bags are also available to be purchased to protect your suite in transit.

With the icy roads due to recent snowfall, Hull seems to have come to a standstill, with schools and small businesses closing. Leaving parents struggling for childcare and having to rearrange their plans.
At Appleyards of Hull we have tried to ensure that our customers are not suffering too much. The self storage loading area has been cleared and gritted as much as possible, so clients can carry on as normal. With clients coming in to store, taking out of store and accessing their storage on a daily basis every attempt is being made to reduce any delays due to snowfall.
No need to make new arrangements, Appleyards of Hull is prepared for this weather to help you keep running as normal but check the radio for any local road closures.

The recent fall of snow and dangerous driving conditions does make carrying out removals a difficult prospect. Whilst most major roads are generally passable with care, side streets are often ignored by many council gritting vehicles. For removers it is these streets that need to be accessed to allow people to move house.
With modern trucks there are fewer problems with the diesel pipes freezing up but health and safety is more of an issue as crews try to carry furniture on icy paths and driveways.
Appleyards of Hull have so far this winter managed to get to and from all address’s but timings sometimes have to be amended due to the snowy conditions !!

Enquiries for International Removals to New Zealand from Hull have continued at a pace into the New Year with by far the most enquiries being for Wellington for Appleyards of Hull. Wellington has always been a popular destination but it is usually overshadowed by moves to Auckland. Moves to the South Island still appear slow following the earthquake in Christchurch. It seems to be larger houses that are moving to Wellington from Hull as every enquiry has been for a full 20ft or 40ft container.
Appleyards are able to carry out a full packing and export packing service as well as assist with completing the international documentation needed prior to shipping items out to New Zealand.
New Zealand is one of the few countries in the world that it is still worthwhile financially to send a motor vehicle to and Appleyards have information on sending cars if you would like it emailing to you.
3rd January 2013
The New Year has seen a massive increase in customers wanting prices for self storage from both the Hull and Beverley area. This post Christmas boom is not unusual but the scale of enquiries coming in through Appleyard's sister company Hull Self Store has been staggering.
Appleyard's have an open pricing policy so it is very easy to request a sales leaflet with the variety of differing sized units and the rates that apply to this. Long term payment deals are always available for long term self storers.
Both recession and divorce seem to be the main reasons why people need to put things into storage currently.
2nd January 2013
If you are having a New Year sort out within your office and need some archive storage files then Appleyards of Hull always have 100;s in stock at only £1.35 per box plus vat. These can be collected or delivered from our central Hull location.

New Zealand and Australia are the top destinations people form East Yorkshire are emigrating to and most enquiries in the last quarter have come in for Sydney.
Although this isn’t the cheapest place in Australia to move to Sydney seems to be providing job opportunities and security for local Hull families. You can ship anything from a few suitcases to a full home, but take professional advice so that you get the import paperwork right.

Many companies allow their paperwork to build up and get into a bit of a mess and the photo enclosed is typical of the way business’s often store their company information as they don’t have time to set up an archive document management system. Then when they find they have resources and the time to do it, the job is more than a little daunting !!
If you are currently in this position and your company is based in and around Hull or Beverley then Appleyards of Hull can assist you. Appleyards have nearly 20 years experience in providing storage services for Beverley residents. This service started as just traditional self storage for people living in the Beverley area but in 2006 mobile self storage was added as a new easy storage method.
Mobile storage is really straight forward and saves you time in double handling the goods. A mobile storage trailer can be delivered outside your home in Beverley, either on the road or onto your drive if space allows. If you prefer to hire a van or are a company based in Beverley requiring 24 hour access then Appleyards will have all the correct self storage solutions for you.
6th December 2012
Moving large items of furniture is never easy and can often be backbreaking work ! Large wardrobes often present challenges to removal companies, especially large antique pieces. Even the largest of modern wardrobes are generally never an issue as they are usually designed and manufactured in kit form for self assembly, and as long as they havent been glued they will usually come apart with ease. The one area of issue with a self assembly robe can be the rear panels which are often of hardboard and more often than not tacked with dozens of nails. It is difficult to remove these backs without some damage to the hardboard. If you are putting a flat pack wardrobe into store or if it has lots of pieces it is a good idea to take photos and number pieces as the unit is dismantled.

Today Appleyard's launched their Christmas card for 2012, designed this year by managing director Andy Dickerson's daughter Amelia. The idea came from some marketing images that are part of an international removals collage that she is currently designing. We all really like the moose, and chose it in preference to a more traditional reindeer.
For anyone moving to Canada from Hull next year they may see part of this Christmas card again !

When it comes to storing your household furniture and effects for just a few weeks, months or possibly even years it is important that you do your research. You really need to know how your goods are going to be stored and also where they will be stored.
The easiest way to check this out is to take time out to visit the storage depot to ensure that it is clean, tidy and well run. Turning up without an appointment is a sure fire way of finding out if the warehouse your goods will be stored in will in reality be fit for purpose.
The term containerised storage is often used, but when it was introduced into the removals industry it was not meant to be associated with steel shipping containers. The whole idea is that customers goods are containerised on site outside their home and then mechanically taken off with a forklift when the van returns to the depot. if this process is repeated when the items are redelivered it cuts down handling by over 200%....and there is no chance of condensation.

Moving overseas can be stressful at the best of times but add to that curious, questioning young children and the stress levels can rise still further. The age and maturity of the child are important factors that influence both when and how children are advised and involved in an international relocation and there is no real right or wrong time as to when to do this.
Do you involve children with the packing ? Again it will vary from home to home, but parents should retain a firm control or they will be paying to send overseas clothes that no long fit and toys that are either broken or that they really no longer play with. Sometimes it is a good idea to get removal cartons well in advance of the move so you can box things off !
Appleyards of Hull would like to thank Isabella for helping Andy their International surveyor with today's relocation survey and for building such a wonderful house !

There is often confusion about some of the restricted items that you can or cannot take into Australia or New Zeland. Many of the restrictions have been in place for many years but confusion can be caused through rumour and chinese wispers !
Foodstuffs of any description, spices, tinned goods etc are generally frowned upon and will lead you into hot water. Similarly any soil on shoes, boots, camping and golf equipment can also lead to potential additional costs and hassle.
People usually get caught out with items that have been living plants so no trendy tall twigs in vases, pot pourri, and watch out for Xmas Decorations as they will usually have something that has been sprayed silver or gold such as a pine cone. See if you can spot these in the photo attached
Quarantine charges are raised at all the ports for Australia and New Zealand so it is best to ensure that you are up to speed on the latest information. Appleyards of Hull send consignments on a weekly basis to both destinations so if you need any advice on shipping goods to either Australia or New Zealand just give them a call and ask for Karen or Andy

The effects of the earthquake in Christchurch are still being felt in N Zealand and it is certainly having an impact on people looking to move from the UK to New Zealand's South Island. Enquiries from East Yorkshire have certainly fallen away but this has been compensated by people looking to relocate the North Island.
Auckland had always been strong in terms of numbers, but increasingly people are moving to Napier and Hastings in Hawkes Bay, Tauranga and New Plymouth. The southern most tip city of Wellington is also seeing its fair share of traffic. However, the fall off in international relocations to Christchurch and Dunedin has allowed Australia to retain its number one spot for enquiries taken at Appleyards of East Yorkshire

Mirrors have always been in our homes and today is no exception. The larger they are the more awkward and heavy they can be. Care must be taken to ensure they are properly protected prior to removal. Bubble wrap is fine but in addition it is often worth protecting them in cardboard. Should you have a mirror with a delicate plaster surround once the mirror has been wrapped it may be sensible to have a plywood crate purpose built to secure it. Appleyards of Hull have many years experience in both moiving and storing mirrors of all shapes and sizes.

Traditionally self storage involves you in having to hire in a van or borrow a works van and therefore handling everything you own four times to get it into and out of storage. However, it doesn’t have to be this way. With mobile storage we bring the storage unit to both your current and new house and this means that you only have to handle everything twice. Mobile storage takes up much less of your time and also saves you worrying about trying to find a van. Price wise it is really competitive and so “simple” you wont believe how easy it is. Appleyards of Hull offer mobile storage as part of its large self store operation.

We Love Mountains are the latest customer to endorse Appleyards of Hull
As Hull based mountain sports store, We Love Mountains, expands online the need to manage secure waste has also increased. With several 'brand' specific virtual online concept stores being highly sucessful at targeting certain focused online shoppers the number of sales, orders and secure payments have increased too.
Specialising in two main sectors, snowboarding and mountain biking. The world leaders for snowboard equipment are Burton Snowboards. We Love Mountains UK site - www.weloveburtonsnowboards.com has now become know as the official UK Burton Snowboard Specialist.
Brand speciality works well as too many ecommerce sites are too general. Certain customers like the total focus that these 'virtual concept stores' offer. Another sucessful addition to the We Love Mountains family is We Love Lapierre - www.welovelapierre.com. Even more specialist as the key to again becoming known as the UKs Lapierre Specialists is in the detail. The effort to get fully behind one brand, adding a vast array of spares, technical help, a forum, 'how to' videos has again led to growth, generating sales and generating confidential documents that need to be handled by the experts - Appleyards of Hull
'Appleyards of Hull has been able to give us a one stop solution for our growing needs. Fully scaleable we can simply buy more shedding as sales grow. Our customers rely on us to handle the security sensitive details of purchase and shipping with great care and this service reassures everybody that the details needed to purchase online do not need to become a security problem afterwards.' For many years France has been the most popular destination for people moving into Europe from Hull and East Yorkshire. Although there are sometimes company relocations to Paris, the majority of moves for second home owners and permanent migrations are to more rural France.
Gites in the Dordogne, farmhouses in the Loire, town houses in Britanny or apartments in the Cote d’Azur all bring their different access and planning issues. Appleyards of Hull have many years experience at delivering throughout all of the regions of France.

The statistics just in for August show a massive increase in the number of enquiries for New Zealand. Some days nearly every enquiry that was received by Appleyards of Hull was for New Zealand. New Zealand has always been one of the dominant countries for people to move to from Hull and East Yorkshire along with Australia but the recent trend is unprecedented.
Auckland still dominates the North Island but Tauranga, Wellington and the Hawkes bay towns of Napier and Hastings are becoming very popular. Enquiries for the South Island have slowed however since the Christchurch earthquake hit but there is still interest in the north of South Island around Nelson and Blenheim.

The service will still be frequent but we will need to determine the delivery date within the week you want. There is usually a weekly service to France, Belguim, Holland, Ireland and Germany and a service every two week from the Hull and surrounding area to Switzerland, Spain, Portugal and Italy.

If you are planning to move from the Hull or East Yorkshire area region to Switzerland then it might be wise to contact Appleyards of Hull sooner rather than later. This is because Switzerland is not a member of the European Union and therefore documentation is required to get the goods through customs. Most of this including the Swiss customs form can be completed in advance. Geneva, Basel and Zurich are the main destinations for people moving with work but The Valais seems to be increasingly popular for those lucky enough to be able to secure a holiday home....which is never that easy to achieve in Switzerland.

If you live in the Beverley area and need some self storage you have two options. You can hire or borrow a van and bring it down to Appleyards of Hull self storage depot or you can have a mobile storage unit brought out to your house.
The cost of this can often be cheaper than hiring a van, it is a lot quicker to load the mobile storage unit as you only have to handle things once and it therefore reduces the chance of damage.

In recent years there seems to have been more people moving back to Yorkshire from Florida than going in the opposite direction, but in recent months the tide seems to be turning. Appleyards of Hull have booked several moves to Miami, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale. The trend is still based on people looking to retire or buy a second home rather than going for work related reasons. Appleyards offer sole use container services or small lot groupage shipments to any part of Florida.

They were polite, very professional, incredibly hard working and really put us at ease. I can say it now we are here, but the whole operation ran incredibly smoothly...text book thanks to their knowledge. I said a huge thank you, but it would mean a lot if you could sing their praises too, they certainly deserve it!

Appleyards of Hull are seeing unprecedented summer increases in the number of self storage rooms being filled. Although on a daily basis clients remove items as they complete decorating projects or get the keys to their new homes, these are being overshadowed by the volume of new customers wanting to store items. The average duration of goods being placed in store is also increasing. Appleyards are not sure if this as a local Hull pattern or if this is being repeated nationwide.

Appleyard's of Hull are delighted to be the prime removal contractor for five school relocation's this summer. The article below appeared in yesterdays Hull Daily Mail along with the images attached.
"STAFF and pupils at three city schools have had a busy end to the summer term as they pack up to move. Pupils at Newland School for Girls helped out filling boxes as they prepare for a move to Sir Henry Cooper School for the year. The pupils will have lessons in the north Hull School while theirs is being substantially refurbished under the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) scheme. Angela Martinson, head at the school, said: "It's quite a momentous occasion. The school hasn't been without girls since 1919. "Moving across to Sir Henry Cooper was a bold decision but I firmly believe it is the right one. "This approach allows Sewell to get on with building and refurbishing our fantastic facility and we can concentrate on providing the best education for the girls without any distractions."

For the early part of 2012 Appleyards of East Yorkshire have been mainly sending full shipping containers around the world to the main migrant destinations of Australia, New Zealand , Canada, etc. In the last few months the pattern has really changed and the company is shipping lots of small part load or groupage consignments. These range from sending just a few suitcases, commonly known as baggage shipments to transit van sized loads of household furniture and effects. Australia and New Zealand are still dominant but recently Dubai in the UAE has become busy again.

Most home owners have pictures or large photos on their walls and these can often present a problem when they move house. It is always best to ensure that they are protected and not loaded loose onto a removal van. If you select two similar sized paintings it is possible to pack them back to back. Appleyards of Hull stock picture cartons which can make packing easier, especially if you are moving overseas. For special sentimental or valuable pieces it can be sensible to over-crate them.

If you want a safe, reliable, confidential home shredding service then look no further than Appleyards of Hull. By prior arrangement they can collect shredding from your home and securely destroy the contents. Bags can be dropped off or mailed to you. If you live in the countryside of East Yorkshire then check out our rural collections service. Dont forget you can also deliver your home shredding bags to your nearest branch. When it comes to storing your furniture and boxes in a self storage room you need to make sure of two things when you are talking to your self storage company. Firstly that the room will be large enough to take all the items you are wanting to store and secondly that you are not renting a room that is too large and therefore too expensive for your needs. At Appleyards of Hull we offer an online volume calculator that will help you with both of the above. Because we also operate as a removal company we also have staff that are experienced in calculating volume and also can give advice on how to pack and stack your self storage room.

As a Commonwealth country Canada has always been a popular destination for people moving from the Hull area. For the Eastern seaboard Toronto is the main port of entry but for the west coast this was traditionally Vancouver. Vancouver is the gateway to British Columbia and also Vancouver Island. Last week Appleyards of Hull collected another groupage consignment heading for Vancouver from Beverley. They have shipped this client back and forth 4 times in the last 10 years !

The house moving market has picked up for the seasonal summer period in Hull. With the school summer holidays rapidly approaching enquiries for domestic removals coming in to Appleyards of Hull have certainly increased. This is also bringing with it a fair amount of stress for house movers, with delays in completions, short notice bookings and late key exchanges. This often leads to furniture needing to be placed into storage at very short notice. The key to a smoother move is constant communication with your removal company so that they can help and guide you along the way.

The tea chest was used as the main object for packing things into when moving house for many years. The term is still used on a daily basis in the removals industry but tea hasn't been sold in this way for many years and neither have removers used T chests for a long time now. Customers find it difficult to assess volume but many can still picture the space a T chest took up. The old chests were very strong but soon became heavy and often hard sharp metal edges. Nowadays Appleyards of Hull stock a wide range of modern flat pack cartons that are a lot easier to use and take up much less space.

Always nice when a customer writes an article and publishes it without you knowing. This was posted in the Cottingham Times following a sucessful move to Spain by Appleyards of Hull
New Home in the Sun This month’s issue follows the Russell family as they begin the move to Spain.
So now we had to organise the moving of two homes to Spain as well as six people and a dog. Because we would need a vehicle in Spain Tom and I decided to sell our cars and buy an eight seater mini bus/ people carrier and drive to Spain. For the removal side of things, I approached Andy Dickerson at Britannia Removals for a quote and the help and advice he gave us in planning the move was much appreciated. We set the UK removal date as 13th April with the lorry then meeting us in Spain on the 17th. It was going to be a bit of a dash but do able. One thing we learnt when packing is don’t underestimate how much stuff you will have to pack and how long it will take, even if, like us, you had de cluttered beforehand. Also no matter how much you mark the boxes, when you get to your destination you will still not find everything you want, three months on and we are still unpacking and looking for bits and pieces!! So 13th April arrived, the lorry was loaded with the contents of our two houses, the minibus was packed with four adults, two kids and a dog and everything you could possibly think of for a four day trip down to Spain. One thing I didn’t really expect was how traumatic it was, not only for us, but family and friends we were leaving behind. Tears flowed on both sides along with hugs and kisses. Because of the kids and the dog I had pre booked all our hotel stops on the way down, so we set off for the Euro Tunnel and our first night in Calais. Over the next 3 days, we covered 1500 miles and arrived at our house on the morning of 17th April. Our new house is about 500m up a narrow track through the olive trees and I don’t know how he had done it, but Gary the lorry driver had managed to get his 40’ artic up the track and was parked outside the gates-brilliant. The Britannia team of four lads arrived from Malaga, started unloading at 9.00 am and by 4.00 pm had finished and gone home. Like the guys loading in the UK, nothing was too much trouble for them making the whole experience as smooth and stress free as possible. We were now in our new home, surrounded by boxes and bags but fortunately during the afternoon my son Tom had built all the beds and my wife had found the boxes of bedding so at least we had some home comforts.

To get as much as you into the smallest self store unit you can it is worth thinking about how you will load it in advance. If you try and condense your packing so chest of drawers, bedside cabinets and ottomans etc are filled this will reduce the number of boxes you will need. When loading create a base using the larger, heavier items and stack lighter, more awkward items on top. Linen and clothing in bags or bin liners are perfect for filling in the gaps or that last space at the very top. Appleyards of Hull usually have a member of staff around who will be able to provide loading guidance if required.
9th July 2012
If you are moving house and have an extensive collection of books then be careful as to what size cartons you pack them into. Appleyards of Hull can supply smaller cartons designed to take the weight of heavy books. Once they packed they can also be easily carried by yourself or your removal men.
8th July 2012
You can put any paperwork into a shedding bag but it is best to remove it first from any plastic sleeves or folders containing metal work. All shredding bags have a dotted line indicating a maximum fill level. Load the bad up to this point but not beyond as you will not then be able to use a seal around the top of the bag, which would allow papers to spill out. Appleyards of Hull keep in stock a regular supply of both seals and bags.
8th July 2012
Appleyards of Hull performed more removals from 5 bedroomed homes than any other size in June. It seems the trend for people moving home to use a professional removal company is being restricted to this type of property as the credit crunch still bites. During the school summer holidays as home moving traditionally peaks this may change a little, but commentators suggest that this wont be for long.
6th July 2012
Customers of Appleyards of Hull who move to W Australia rarely go further afield than a 30 mile radius around the port of Freemantle. Perth seems to be attracting an awful lot of migrants from East Yorkshire but few are tempted to move further North to Geraldton or higher more remote towns. Customers ship items upwards of several suitcases to full 20ft shipping containers to Perth.

As the summer holidays approach speedily along with the seasonal increase in removal enquiries, so do the concerns of prospective house movers. This week alone Appleyards of Hull have had to assist two families that have moved out of their homes only to find themselves stranded as a result of the sale of their house not then going through. In the past there used to be 6 to 8 weeks between exchange and completion and things seemed to run much smoother. Now that solicitors have the ability to even exchange and deliver on the same day it seems to create endless stress for the house mover and all the services that go with it.

If you have piles of paperwork building up in your office or have found time to get round to clearing out then you will need some shredding bags delivering to you to make life a little easier. This will be more cost effective for you than using your own boxes as the bags are supplied free of charge by Appleyards of Hull. Dont forget to use the ties supplied to secure the bag and give Appleyards of Hull a call to get them taken away and securely destroyed.

If you are moving house and are thinking about the packing of your personal effects then you have three options to consider. Firstly you do all the packing yourself which is the cheapest option but also the most time consuming. Your remover will be able to help sell you cartons as these are not readily available. Secondly you can go for a full packing service which is very relaxing but obviously more expensive. Appleyards of Hull have found that a part packing service for all the breakables is their most frequently requested service for customers moving home. The house mover will pack all books, clothing, linen, tools etc but leave pictures, mirrors, china, glass and ornaments for the remover. This halfway house also helps with insurance cover.

Many well traveled people would claim that Cape Town is the most scenic city in the world. Certainly when it comes to moving to South Africa it is one of the most popular destinations for people migrating from East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. Johannesburg was equal for quite some time in numbers of families being shipped, but whilst Johannesburg seems to be the financial capital it is the lure of the Cape that is driving international removal enquireies to Appleyards of Hull.

If you are looking to relocate to what is known as a deep sea destination such as Adelaide, New York, or Johannesburg then you will need to send your household goods in a standard shipping container. If you are looking at shipping a smaller consignment around the world then for some countries there just isnt enough volume being shipped and you need to send the items as a cased or "less than container load". For the commonwealth destinations such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada or South Africa there is plenty of traffic so groupage loads can easily be consolidated. This year Appleyards of Hull have shipped crated consignements to Thailand, The Phillapines, India and the West Indies and enquiries for other unusual destinations come in daily.....all requiring specialist removal crates.

It is five years to the day that around 15,000 homes within Hull and the surrounding area were flooded. Never before has Appleyards of Hull;s warehouse been as full with customers requiring storage. For many families it took up to two years to get their homes dried out, redecorated and the furniture brought back in from container storage. Lets hope that lessons have been learnt and that the work that has been carried out will limit the impact of another major flood, should one ever occur.

As the recession continues to bite there is more and more demand for Appleyards of Hull to relocate companies in and around the city. Whole office blocks sometimes have to be cleared when firms have gone into liquidation but several firms are taking advantage of cheaper rates, often in more modern premesis, which then requires a move. Access is always the key to how smoothly or quickly a commercial move can be completed. Lifts are not always an option which can lead to hard work especially for large mutli store cabinets needing to be carried down stairs. Sometimes it is easier to hire in an external elevator.

There is sometimes confusion as to what "Containerised Storage" really is and if you are considering storing goods you need to make sure you understand this. The true meaning in the removal sense is to take a storage container in a removal van to your home. Items are loaded into the container on site, inventoried and when the vehicle returns to the warehouse the container is taken off with a foklift and placed into the depository. The same is done in reverse for the redelivery so the goods are only handled twice. Some companies use second hand shipping containers and this means your furniture is handled four times and is stored in steel which may condense in the winter....and you need to be aware of this.

Movement to the Canaries from East Yorkshire has never been massive but there has always been a constant trickle of people moving back and forth from these Spanish owned Islands. Tenerife is generally the most popular destination with Lanzarote probably running a close second. All goods tend to be shipped in via Santa Cruz on Tenerife. Appleyards of Hull are able to sort any sized consignment but most tend to be relatively small.

There are some really good advantages for using a mobile storage company. You dont need to hire a van and worry about the van hire cost, licences, van insurance and fuel. You only need to handle your goods once in the day and this is done outside your property so loading is very quick and there are no long carrries down corridors or up lifts. Appleyards of Hull have many years experience of providing Mobile Self Storage in and around the Hull and Beverley areas and will help solve your storage needs.

The recession still seems to be hitting the lower and middle sized properties when it comes to moving house. Appleyards of Hull have noticed however, that quality removals for the large properties are still happening on a regular basis. This is most likely due to these type of home owners being more likely to have the resources to sort out the relevant deposits now required by most financial lending institutions. The has also been more interest in larger propertied in North Lincolnshire now the Humber Bridge tolls have been reduced.
22nd May 2012
Toronto and Vancouver have always been the main destinations for people moving from Hull and surrounding towns to Canada. They are historical destinations that date back to early Commonwealth days. Today however, people seem to be venturing further inland and further North in search of work. Appleyards of Hull have recently moved a client to Hay RIver which has been featured recently on both The Frozen Planet and also Ice Road Truckers. Suffice to say it is rather remote to say the least and a challenge to ship furniture to.
22nd May 2012
After 5 years of developing its shredding business in the city Appleyards of Hull have now moved into supplying confidential destruction systems into peoples offices. Subject to the clients wishes this can range from a traditional but lockable wheelie bins to a stylish office console. The units are emptied every four weeks and the contents are taken away to be cross cut shredded and then recycled. Appleyards are equally happy to shred one bag or many hundreds of bags.
22nd May 2012
Over the years Appleyards of Hull have been asked to move many items of fine art both locally within Hull, thorought Europe and to further flung destinations such as Australia, New Zealand and the USA. In many instances purpose built crates or heavy duty cartons are used to ensure that once the items have been wrapped they are fully protected. A close relationship has been built up with local antiques dealers who appreciate the care that will be taken when they sell nice pieces to their customers.

Over the last month Appleyards of Hull has has an influx of enquiries for moves to Holland and Belguim. With nightly access to either Europoort or Zebrugge from Hull it makes planning a trip really easy. Relocations to either destination can often be carried out as speedily as a move to the South Coast of England or to Cornwall. Appleyards work closley with Mondial Movers in Holland and this assistance can be invaluable if porter hire or an outside elevator is required.
21st May 2012
Despite the seasonal summer high still being several months away Appleyards of Hull is having to expand its Self Storage and Mobile Storage facilities to cope with the current demand. The recession still seems to be the driving factor as young couples are having to move back in with parents and store goods until they can find their feet to back onto the property ladder. Storage rooms are also now being filled with suitcases, boxes and bags belonging to students from Hull University. Plans are being made to build more rooms and to expand the 24 hour access to all customers in the future.
21st May 2012
It is now standard practice for Appleyards of Hull to use mattress covers on all its moves. For a removal within the UK this wlll be made out of polythene but for international moves a thick paper bag is used. This policy ensures that beds and bedding are kept clean at all times
20th May 2012
Moving house is a stressful enough time on its own, but when you combine this with difficult access it can make for a very difficult moving day if you are not prepared. Many larger properties are often down lanes with overhanging trees or are behined high walls with narrow entrances and electric gates. To combat this Appleyards of Hull have invested in a fleet of smaller vehicles that can be used to shuttle the furniture to the new house or to tranship it to a larger van if the move is going long distance. This is a typical problem in the country villages surrounding Beverley.
19th May 2012
Due to the difficulties in obtaining a work permitt movement to The States from East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire has never been a major souce of business for Appleyards of Hull. However, the recession seems to have started a regular trickle of movement as specialist employees seek jobs in American companies where the role cannot be perfomred by a US citizen. This has complemented second home ownership in places like Florida and L Angeles
19th May 2012
Over the years people who move home seem to have and increasing amount of plants to move with them. These can range from indoor shruberies within conservatories to several van loads of conifers, hedging and small trees being dug up from the garden. One thing is for sure is that a large collection of plants can be expensive to replace and removal fees are a cheaper option. Whilst not being the easiest things to secure into a load and pack around Appleyards of Hull are used to handling anything from an aspidistra to an azealia

Not to be outdone by her brother Martha has been very busy and has requested that her picture is also to be considered for a new van livery for Appleyards of Hull. The company is now considering fitting alloy wheels and only doing removals in future when the sun is out ! Great work Martha, we feel you have a "bright" future.

We would like to know if Ben aged 4 from West Hull is likely to become East Yorkshires next David Hockney ? Inspired by the thoughts of moving home with his parents Ben insisted on doing a drawing of Appleyards removal van to present to the removals estimator during the survey. This design is now being considered as a potential new van livery for the company ?? !!!!!

Since the students have returned from the Easter break many have been contacting Appleyards of Hull to enquire about storing thier possessions through the summer holiday break. With lots of cheap self storage and discounted summer student rates bookings are already up on last year. The University of Hull has a lot of international students and Appleyards have a tradition of shipping many of these home when they have finished their final year.
15th May 2012
If you are looking to send anything around the world that is an unusual size Appleayrds of Hull have the ability to create a bespoke heavy duty carton to ensure the item is transported safely. Featured here are three specialist sewing machines that are bound for Brisbane in Australia from East Yorkshire in strong carboard. This is especially relevant for Australia where it is not possible to send rough sawn timber into the country and treated wood is generally more expensive.
14th May 2012
Home owners from around the county have been contacting Appleyards of Hull to move their household furniture and effects out to the Spanish Costas in particular. Whilst there is some movement to areas around Santander and Bilbao the majority of moves from around the Hull area seem to be still heading down to Alicante on the Costa Brava and Malaga on the Costa del Sol. Last week Appleyards also moved families from both the Grimsby and Scunthorpe surrounding areas to start a new chapter of thier lives on the Spanish mainland.
14th May 2012
Every day Appleyards of Hull aims to produce a minimum of half a ton of shredded paper through its confidential waste disposal arm. The company is committed to helping the environment where it can and therefore ensures that all the shredded paper it produces is recycled. Several large business's within East Yorkshire have either relocated factories or set up new factories in India and this has led to Appleyards of Hull performing a number of corporate moves to this destination. Only last week a client was moved from Bridlington ( see photo ) to New Delhi. With cheap labour markets the pull of the Indian sub continent is likely to continue in the forseeable future and Appleyards have access to a network of agents to help with deliveries.

When people move around the world they often get concerned about the things that are near and dear to them...and this often incudes their golf clubs ! Although they may have fine bone china, antique furniture or fine art paintings it is the golf clubs that they need the most reassurance about. In order that minimum playing downtime is achieved these are sometimes airfrieghted out in advance of the main consignment. If a customer doesnt have his own hard shell case Appleyards will supply Golf Cartons that will help protect the bag and clubs in transit.
9th May 2012
Appleyards of Hull are looking to develop their Self Storage facilities still further to cope with the increasing demand for this type of storage . Last week two Directors visited several self storage depots in Holland to see how the Dutch moving companies have moved further into this market. Currently Appleyards purchase steel containers from ECB in Rotterdam and the trip was to look at ways that these can be stacked and accessed, as per the image attached.
4th May 2012
Several years ago Appleyards of Hull moved a customer to New Zealand and only recently the same client returned to the UK to forward a second smaller groupage consignment. Both of these international moves were handled by managing director Andy Dickerson but it wasnt until the second meeting that he and the client realised that they shared the same passion for rock climbing. Images and tales of epic routes and days out are now being exchanged via the internet. Appleyards client is pictured sport climbing in New Zealand.

When people move overseas they have little idea as to how thier goods will be sent. They usually guess it will go by sea rather than by air but they do not always appreciate the vast size of the container ships that are sailing the worlds oceans carrying 20ft and 40ft steel shipping containers with peoples lives within them.
The average time allowed to load a container outside somebodys house is 3 hours so everything must be packed and wrapped ready to go as soon as the container arrives. Whether loading in Hull, Bridlington, Grimsby or Scunthorpe, Appleyards of Hull will usually take 2 days to prepare a 20ft and 3 days to sort a 40ft container.
29th April 2012
Last week Appleyards of Hull were presented with the first "Official Partner" certificate to be handed out to a business in the Hull region. The easily recognisable Cash 4 Kids logo is being displayed on all their removal vehicles in an attempt to give more publicity to this excellent charity.
27th April 2012
April has seen an increase in people looking to move from East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire to New Zealand. These have often been couples with young families looking to start a new life, especially in the Auckland area.
Whilst it is true to say that the North island seems to be the most popular there is to be a new building project in Christchurch following the devastating earthquake and subsequent frequent aftershocks and this will attract skilled migrants from the UK without fail.
Appleyards of Hull are currently moving a family every other week to New Zealand.
26th April 2012
The first steps have been made today to make Hull Self Store a 24 hour, seven days a week self storage company. Following a visit to a similar site in Burton on Trent ( Britannia Premier Self Store ) today and in anticipation of seeing similar set ups during a visit next week to self store establishments in Holland, this seems as the next natural progression for Hull Self Store.
The proposed changes will allow the company to expand its number of available rooms and provide even better customer service.
25th April 2012
When people move house there is usually something that they are especially concerned about. At Appleyards of Hull we try and identify what this item or items might be and then come up with a realistic solution to give the correct care and attention needed in transit.
Whether this be a toy car collection, a Moorcroft vase or a home built model steam engine we always try and photograph the item and then brief the crews in advance so they know what to expect and how to carry out the packing if required.
23rd April 2012
If you are browsing the antique shops or have inherited an old piece of furniture from a relation take time to give it a quick check over, especially the underneath.
If you spot lots of small holes then there is a good chance the piece has at one point been subject to woodworm. If the holes show no sign of dust and there is no evidence of the holes looking fresh then it is highly likely that the item has been treated and there is little to worry about.
If it however looks like the attached image and there are sawdust like piles at the bottom then you have a problem. This can cause further issues if you are looking to ship it overseas as it will not be allowed entry into many countries.
21st April 2012
The decision by local Hull firm Smith & Nephew to relocate part of its operation to Shanghai in China has added to the recent increasing numbers of enquries Appleyards of Hull have received for people relocating to this fast growing vibrant city.
With a population growing rapidly to in excess of 23 million there is demand for skilled workers from the West and people are being tempted to work thier. Typically contracts seem to be running for a minimum of three years and families are relocating the whole of thier homes instead of just sending a few personal items by airfreight.
19th April 2012
Safes, fire proof cabinets and pianos are often seen as difficult items to remove. But with experienced staff and modern equipment such as piano wheels, skoots, dollies and pinch bars these items are rarely a problem for Appleyards fo Hull.
For very large safes they then hire in specialist equipment such as tracked stair climbers or large cranes. These moves require time and slow precision movement to ensure that nothing or nobody is damaged or harmed.
18th April 2012
The first Appleyard of Hull vehicle is now out and about displaying the Cash4 Kids logo on its front doors
Over the next few weeks it is hoped that all trucks will be sorted to help promote this wonderful cause.
17th April 2012
Some removals are relatively straight forward but others require more love, care and attention. Whilst you would think that the contents of the picture attached was more suited to the parlour room of a stately home it is in fact the contents of a dining room of a modern 4 bedroom new detached property.
The rest of the home was dressed the same and it requires a great deal of skill from our removal crews to pack up the items for transportation.
16th April 2012
One positive effect of the recession for commercial moving companies such as Appleyards of Hull is that companies are now able to negociate cheaper rates in often more modern buildings....which is leading to more office relocations.
As leases run out buisness's around Hull are able to find better property, with shorter tenancy agreements for less money.
Appleyards have taken advantage of this and are abel to offer other services such as archive storage and shredding at the same time.
11th April 2012
Members from around the country are cycling to this years Britannia Conference to raise money for various local charities. The first team (pictured) set off over the Easter weekend from Lands End to head up to the venue at Newcastle.
Others are setting off from different locations with the intention of meeting up at the iconic Angel of the North before cycling down to the conference hotel.
Appleyards would like to wish all riders the best of luck for a puncture and saddle sore free ride !
7th April 2012
During the awful weather earlier last week Appleyards of Hull performed a move from a home that is falling into the sea due to coastal erosion.
The home is now currently only about 10 metres from the cliff top and as every wave pounded in it shook both the home and removal van alike.
Suffice to say the crew were pleased to get loaded and away speedily. All contents are now safely in a new home many miles inland !!
2nd April 2012
Its very satisfying when good planing and hard working crews are recognised by your client
"Ian, I'm charged by the Director of Corporate Services, Martin Gore, with passing on to you and your staff at Appleyards the best wishes and thanks of Humberside Probation Trust for a job well done. On a personal note I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to both John and Mark,( who I worked closely with), for all their hard work, help, advice and professionalism, not to mention their sense of fun, throughout the entire project, without which the works would not have run so smoothly. At our Grimsby site, where space was very tight, they worked with our local staff to minimise any disruption. This was noted by Grimsby office staff and they ask that their thanks be passed onto John and Mark. I must also mention Rob and Josh who worked with my colleague Tom, on the Wednesday of the move for all there best efforts. Please be aware that should the Trust require any such services as provided by Appleyards in the future we will not hesitate to contact you. Many thanks, Kevin."
29th March 2012
The recession certainly seems to have halted a lot of the planned developments for new apartments in the local region but there is plenty of movement to and from the existing ones in the city.
The rental market here is still strong city living is very popular for people waiting to make their first moves into the property market.
Small lifts and parking problems can make carrying out removals slightly more akward but Appleyards of Hull now have many years of experience in this field
26th March 2012
If anyone was having any issues contacting us last week we were having our server upgraded so thank you for bearing with us.
All thanks to Computanet and Moveman for getting us back up and running so smoothly.
Delighted that all computers are working speedily now and have plenty of capacity

Up until the recent recession Greek Cyprus was the third biggest destination for people emigrating from East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. The crash in the UK property market had a dramatic effect on this as the majority of people moving here were either retired or looking at retirement and they needed the lump sums of cash from the sale of their homes to start their new life in Cyprus.
The recent signs of life in UK house sales have led to increased enquiries once more, especially for the popular destinations of Paphos and Limassol and Appleyards are starting to ship people out again.
23rd March 2012
Enquiries from Hull and Beverley based firms have increased since Christmas for secure document destruction.
In order to maintain customer and employee confidentiality companies are looking to have all their paperwork shredded by Appleyards shredding service. Appleyards have the quality standard BSEN 15713 for the secure destruction of confidential material and all shredded paper is sent to be recycled which meets with companies "green" policies.
22nd March 2012
The first signs of first time buyers appearing on the property ladder are encouraging for removal firms across the UK that have been hit by the decline in people moving house.
It has been well documented that Hull has been hit hard by the recession and this is what is needed to kick start the house moving chains which Britannia Appleyards has relied upon so much more in the past.
A shift from renting to purchase for first time buyers is much welcomed in East Yorkshire
21st March 2012
The tide of people flowing from the UK to Dubai seems to be increasing again. Tales
of abandoned cars at airport terminal buildings in this fast moving city appear to have been
forgotten as UK employees seek higher salaries.
Building expansion and development brings job opportunities and with this a demand for people to relocate from East Yorkshire.
19th March 2012
Piano moving is often considered one step too far for the average person trying to move home themselves and often they call in the experts.
In the past month Appleyards have crated and shipped overseas a baby grand piano and a harpsicord. They have also removed a heavy double iron framed Beckstein to Leipzig and sucessfully loaded and delivered some highly polished upright pianos.
If you have a piano to move, or thinking of buying one, then maybe you should also consider giving Appleyards a call to remove it for you.
15th March 2012
Twenty new door van decals have been delivered to Appleyards today to help publicise the childrens charity Cash 4 Kids
Hopefully the catchy logo will be seen on a daily basis as Appleyards fleet moves around the streets of Hull and surrounding villages
Appleyards have pledged to help raise funds for this wonderful cause

How long have you spent in front of that little home shredder you bought ? How often has it jammed ? Does it take your cheque book stubs ?
Why not free up some time and take advantage of our Home Shred service. Collect shredding bags from us and fill them at your leisure. Zip tie the top and our large industrial machine will munch through the contents in minutes
You can watch if you wish as we are very mindful of identity theft and as we are BSEN certified we will always issue you with a certificate of destruction.

Spring is truly in the air and its bringing with it a rush of customers needing self storage. Whilst some clients need access on an almost daily basis most seem content in placing thier goods into store for a much longer term with limited access. For the latter Hull Self Store can offer some of the cheapest Self Storage rates in Hull.
10th March 2012
A record number of shipments have been sent from East Yorkshire and North Lincs during January and February by Britannia Appleyards. People are emigrating at a record pace with Australia and New Zealand dominating the market as normal but increasing numbers are considering DUbai, South Africa and Canada
International shipping manager Karen Saville also reported on the massive increase in small lot ( groupage ) consignements that are heading literally all over the world.
All signs of the global lifestyles being lived by many.
8th March 2012
Australia has always been a popular destination for people moving from East Yorkshire but currently there is high demand for most major Australian cities.
Perth has always been a strong destination for people relocating from Hull, but Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydney are currently in great demand.
Our agents, always seem to want show pictures of kangaroos in their photos !!
6th March 2012
In the 1960;s and 1970's many large homes were designed with large sweeping drives in front of them. Often in an semicircle so you could drive in one way whilst avoiding the manicured lawn and the odd conifer tree.
These days most large houses are enlcosed with high walls, large gateposts and electric gates.
One thing that hasnt really changed is the volume of furniture coming out of these type of properties and this means that the traditional large removal van has to be replaced by a fleet of smaller vans.
3rd March 2012
Despite the Euro still remaining high in recent months Britannia Appleyards have had a high volume of calls for people who are interested in relocating to France
The capital city still seems to be chiefly the reserve of the company corporate relocations, probably due to the high property prices in Paris
Programmes such as " A Place In The Sun" have fuelled interest in older properties which are plentyfull in rural France. Converting a gite looks like it is going to become a popular pastime again.
Another client was loaded only yesterday from Hull heading for the warmth of the south of France.......feeling jealous !!!!
28th February 2012
During a recent removal to an address with an akward access for delivery the Appleyards crew solved the problem
on site by enlisting a local farmer to hitch up the removal trailer to his tractor. Job was sorted in no time at all as
we were able to get outside the front door.
