Airfreight - the speedy way to ship smaller amounts.
Airfreight
If you are looking to send smaller quantities of effects around the world then the speediest way to send them is by airfreight. Although air transport is traditionally more expensive, this is not always the case when you are sending small consignments.
Packing Items For Airfreight
Unless you are taking just a few boxes it is normal for all airfreight consignments to be over-cased prior to collection. Although you may need to send differing shaped items if you use modular cartons these will fit into the aircases without wasting space. Typically one cubic metre crates are used as they are ideal for nearly all air cargo holds.
During the packing process it is important not only to list the contents of each carton, but also to weigh each carton or item once packed and note this value against the allocated inventory number.
Following collection your final consignment will be weighed and X rayed at the airport prior to being forwarded.
Top Tip When Sending Items By Airfreight.
Be aware that all airfreight charges are based on either the final volumetric weight or space whichever of the two is the greater. This means that the final price cannot be calculated until the consignment is ready to go and has been weighed and measured.
Destination Services
You may wish to collect your effects from the destination airport but for many countries a door to door service is also available. Ensure that you if you are collecting from the airport you pre pay customs clearance charges.
Prohibited Items For Airfreight
When you are looking to send anything by air you need to check not only what is prohibited by the country you are sending the items to, but also what is prohibited by the airlines. It is very important to take expert advice before deciding what you want to send.
