Importing Household Effects Into Australia

It is only possible to gain duty free entry into Australia if you have owned and used your household furniture and effects for a minimum period of twelve months. Appleyards of Hull have the relevant Australian customs forms and will be able to assist you to complete these. If the paperwork has been completed correctly it is currently possible to have your consignment cleared through customs before you arrive in Australia.

Restricted Items For Australia

Following is a list of items in no particular order that you should not be importing into Australia. Plant material or plants, food items, alcohol or narcotics, pornography, dangerous or inflammable items or firearms. If you are in doubt about any other items then seek advice before shipping them over.

Transit Times For Australia

Transit times will always vary to due to volumes of traffic being shipped to Australia and other factors such as poor weather or customs procedures. A typical part load can take around 9 to 14 week whereas a sole use 20ft or 40ft shipping container may take 6 to 8 weeks. These times are from the port in the UK to any of the mainstream ports in Australia.

Customs Clearance In Australia

Upon arrival in Australia and prior to delivery, all items will need to be cleared by customs and this procedure can normally take between 10 to 15 days. The standard charges to present paperwork to customs is included in most quotes but duty and local taxes are not. All consignments will also attract a quarantine inspection fee.

Through the network of agents at all the major ports listed above Appleyard's are able to arrange delivery to almost anywhere in Australia. Once any quarantine fees have been paid and the consignment is cleared through customs delivery and unpacking can be arranged. Generally the agents will perform the reverse of the packing service provided in the UK.

Top Tip When Moving To Australia

Please be aware that no shipping containers are delivered to your door in Australia. All containers are unloaded at the Australian port ready for the contents to be inspected by customs and AQIS.
