Moving to United Arab Emirates
United Arab Emirates are made up of seven emirates being Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Qaiwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah. When shipping to the UAE, Appleyards of Hull can arrange both the shipment of just one box to your full house contents.
Importing Household Effects to the UAE
Household and related effects can be imported free of duty tax provided all the requirements listed below are met

You must have a valid U.A.E residence visa

You must be present in the UAE at the time of custom clearance
-
All goods must arrive within one month of your arrival

The goods must be your own goods, and you must have owned and used the goods for a minimum period of 12 months before shipment
Restricted and Prohibited Items for the UAE
The majority of shipments into the UAE will be subject to a full physical inspection and it therefore in your interest to pack books, CD’s and videos separate so that they can be identified by customs and assist with a speedy clearance.
All new items will be subject to customs duty at a rate of 5% therefore you will need to present any original invoices to assist. If these are not available customs will assess the value of your goods upon arrival.
If your visa is a Business visa and less than 6 months this will also attract custom duty again at 5% of the assessed value of goods
It is recommended you do not include the following within your shipment:

Any firearms, weapons or ammunition as these are strictly prohibited.

No articles manufactured from wildlife to include elephants, rhinoceros, zebras, antelope, deer, reptiles/snakes, whales, dolphins, feathers, coral and members of the cat family.

No objectionable material or material likely to cause offence.

No meat or food products or raw wooden products or wicker and cane items.
Transit Times For The UAE
Groupage shipments shipped through Dubai can take between 8 to 12 weeks door to door
Full containers can take 5 to 7 weeks from door to door and can be shipped through all the major ports.
Please note the above are estimated times and these can vary depending on weather conditions, port congestion or volumes of traffic to be shipped
Customs Clearance In The UAE
Please allow 7 to 10 clear working days from the arrival of your goods for custom clearance. All normal custom clearance charges are included in your relocation cost, but any additional custom charges or duties applied upon arrival, will be met by our overseas agent who will seek reimbursement from you prior to delivery/hand-out.
Destination Services in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Muscat, Rashid and Jebel Ali
Once your goods have arrived and gone through custom clearance, you will be contacted by our agent who will arrange a convenient date for the delivery of your goods to your new home. If you have selected custom clearance and hand-out then you will be contacted to arrange a date for the collection of goods from the agent’s warehouse.
Top Tip When Moving To the United Arab Emirates
Always pack Cd’s books and any DVD’s separate and keep a list of titles in the top of the packing box, this would certainly help when customs inspect these boxes.
Ensure you have the correct documentation before organising your shipment and that you have the correct visa in place
Ensure you have completed your Marine Insurance, and the signed proposal forms have been sent to the office in good time, ideally you need to be in receipt of your certificate before the removal crew handle your goods.
