How To Move Wardrobes
Sometimes you cannot tell if a wardrobe will fit in by measurement or photographs and it is just trial and error on the day. There are however, some good rules of thumb that can be applied.
What You Need To Know When Moving Wardrobes
Depending on what type of wardrobe you have will in the first instance determine generally what needs to be done to it prior or during removal.
Moving Single Wardrobes
These present few issues
Moving Double Wardrobes
Many double wardrobes can be removed as they are without the need to do anything to them. Mirrored doors can be heavy so removing these would make life easier. The main thing that prevents a double wardrobe from being delivered is a tight corridor, narrow staircases with low overhanging ceilings or if the wardrobe is especially wide or tall. If either of the latter then they will need to be taken apart.
Moving Triple Wardrobes
There are very few triple wardrobes that can be moved in one piece and in most instances these will need to be dismantled.
Moving Antique Wardrobes
Due to the nature of their design, even large antique wardrobes are not that difficult to remove. The top plinths and bottom rails often separate easily and the main body is usually in sections that separate into manageable pieces.
Moving System Wardrobes
Most self build robes are made out of chip board and they are not designed to be taken down and rebuilt. Typically the backs are tacked on and they are difficult to remove without damaging the hardboard. Obviously these type of wardrobes are removed on a daily basis but they can take a good while to split. The more expensive system wardrobes tend to be easier to sort.
Top Tips When Moving Wardrobes
Should you need to dismantle a wardrobe and later have to reassemble it you can help yourself by a combination of any or all of the following
Taking photographs every step of the way
Numbering all pieces as you go along
Taking a sketch of the robe and noting pieces as to left right top bottom
