Prohibited Items into New Zealand
Many Brits choose New Zealand to relocate due to the high standard of living and of course the fantastic scenery.
There are a few things to look out for when shipping your Household furniture and effects overseas and Appleyards of Hull can advise on restricted and prohibited items.
The majority of shipments going into the main ports of Wellington and Auckland on the North Island, and Christchurch on the South Island will be inspected, and if required, will be fumigated. This can take around 48 hours with a further seven days if any item has to be fumigated. Any charges relating to this will be for the shippers account upon completion of this service. Appleyards will complete a detailed packing inventory to assist customs and to ensure this process is easy to implement.
You must ensure your garden effects, and any outdoor effect are clean, and any hoovers are emptied before shipment. It is recommended that you do not include any items of food, canned or dried.
If you choose to take a Firearm within your shipment you must have obtained a permit from the police department prior to shipment. Ensure your shipper packs this to the rear of your container to allow ease of access.
You can ship your vehicle into New Zealand relatively easily and this can be imported free of goods service tax, providing you have owned and used the car for a period of 12 months prior to shipment and intend to keep hold of the car for a minimum of 2 years after arrival. All vehicles MUST be steam cleaned.
Please note all new and unused items will be subject to duty and goods service tax
