Moving a traditional upright piano is generally classed as something that needs to be done by qualified removal staff. Keyboards and more modern pianos tend to be a lot lighter and can be moved much easier.

The first thing to consider when moving a piano is are there any steps leading into or out of the properties you are removing it from and to. If there are just a couple then using a set of piano wheels will allow the piano to ride up and over these. More than this then generally a ramp system will be needed or the piano will need to be lifted one step at a time.

You then need to consider the piano itself. A normal upright can be removed by two trained men; however if it is an iron framed piano then four men are needed. You would also need four men for safety if a piano is to be taken up or downstairs.
